-
Membership Why should I join the Residents Association?
PLBRA speaks for every resident in Park La Brea, but paid membership is how that voice gets formal weight. As a member, you can vote for Board members, run for the Board yourself, and help set the direction of the work that affects your building, your rent, and your daily quality of life.
Beyond voting power, membership funds the newsletters, the committee work, and the advocacy that has won real victories for this community — including asbestos disclosure, water utility corrections, and key fob access for children. When you join, you are not paying for a service. You are investing in the neighborhood you already chose.
-
Membership How much does membership cost?
PLBRA membership is $20 for an individual or $30 for a household per year. That covers everyone at your address under a single membership — so a family of four pays the same $30 as a couple.
It is genuinely one of the lowest-cost ways to have a real say in the community you live in. The dues go directly toward association operations: newsletters, Board meetings, and the advocacy work that keeps management accountable.
-
Membership If I am not a member, can I still contact PLBRA about an issue?
Absolutely. PLBRA is here for all residents, whether or not you hold a membership card. If something is wrong in your building or your community, we want to hear about it. Reach us at [email protected] and we will do our best to help or point you in the right direction.
That said, membership helps fund the work and strengthens the resident voice we take into every conversation with management and the city. Even if you reach out as a non-member today, consider joining — it amplifies the impact of your concern and every concern like it.
-
Membership Can I participate in committees without joining?
Yes — PLBRA welcomes resident participation at every level, including committee involvement before you have formally joined. If you care about land use, tenant rights, community events, or the newsletter, there is a committee that wants your perspective.
Joining PLBRA gives the association more financial resources and formal membership weight when it negotiates on your behalf, so we always encourage it. But the door is open either way. Show up, bring your knowledge of your corner of Park La Brea, and get involved.
-
Membership What does PLBRA actually do?
PLBRA works through committees and resident advocacy to represent the interests of Park La Brea's 12,000-plus residents. Current and ongoing work includes outreach and community organizing, land use and zoning tracking, rent and market-rate housing concerns, short-term rental (Airbnb) issues, the PLBRA Newsletter, and community events like Thursday Night at the Movies.
Past wins that came from this work include securing asbestos exposure disclosure for residents, correcting water utility overcharges that residents had been absorbing for years, and working with management on key fob access for children. None of those outcomes happened without organized, persistent resident advocacy — and that is what PLBRA provides.
-
Meetings What is the best way to reach PLBRA?
Email is the most reliable channel: [email protected]. The Board monitors this address and routes inquiries to the right committee or Board member. Most questions receive a response within a few business days.
You can also stop by the PLBRA office in the Tower 39 Lobby Office at 401 S. Burnside Avenue when a Board member or volunteer is present, or attend one of our regular Board meetings — listed on the Meetings page — where you can speak directly with elected representatives.
-
Meetings What if I want to contribute to the newsletter or take out an ad?
The PLBRA Newsletter is a genuine community publication, and resident contributions make it better. If you have a story, a neighborhood update, an event announcement, or want to advertise a local business, email [email protected] and describe what you would like to contribute.
The VP and newsletter committee review all submissions. There are no guarantees of publication — the team edits for space and relevance — but every message is read and considered. The newsletter reaches several thousand residents and is one of the best ways to communicate with the community directly.
-
Property I have a safety concern. Who should I call?
If the situation is life-threatening or a crime is in progress, call 911 first and always. That includes fires, medical emergencies, and any violent situation.
For non-emergency resident concerns — noise complaints, suspicious activity, lockouts, or on-property issues that are not immediate emergencies — contact PLB Patrol at 323-549-5508. They are the first-response security presence for Park La Brea and are staffed around the clock. If you are unsure which channel to use, calling PLB Patrol first for a non-emergency is always appropriate.
-
Property What if something breaks in my apartment?
Maintenance requests for apartment repairs go directly to PLB Service — not to PLBRA. You can submit a service request through the resident portal or call the main Park La Brea office at 323-549-5400. Keep a record of the request date, the issue you reported, and any reference numbers you are given.
If you feel your maintenance request is being ignored or unreasonably delayed, that is something PLBRA can help you escalate. Document the timeline and contact us at [email protected] — tracking unresolved maintenance patterns is part of our advocacy work.
-
Property I have a lease, payment, move-out, or apartment question. Who do I contact?
Lease, payment, move-out, and apartment administration questions go directly to Park La Brea management — not to PLBRA. Contact the Accounts Receivable or leasing team through the resident portal, or call the main office at 323-549-5400 and they will route you to the right department.
PLBRA is the independent resident association, not the management company. We do not have access to individual lease records. That said, if you believe you are being treated unfairly on a billing or lease issue, we want to hear about it — patterns of concern are exactly what PLBRA investigates on behalf of residents.
-
Property The shared washer or dryer is broken. What should I do?
Shared laundry machines are serviced by an outside vendor, not Park La Brea management. The fastest path to repair is to submit a service request directly at wash.com/service-request. You will need the six-digit machine ID displayed on the front panel of the broken unit.
You can also call the vendor's service line at 800-421-6897. Note the machine ID, the laundry room building, and the date you reported it — this record is useful if repairs are slow to come.
-
Property I want to sign up for, cancel, or adjust a pool or gym membership.
Pool and gym memberships are managed directly by Park La Brea. To sign up, cancel, or make changes, bring a photo ID and a copy of your lease to the pool administration office. Office hours are posted on-site.
If you have questions about fees, access rules, or changes to pool and gym policies, those go to management as well. If you encounter a policy that seems unreasonable or unfairly applied, let PLBRA know — amenity access has been an area of active advocacy in the past.
